Day 71 — Retaining Walls, Lighting, and Marketplace Assets

Cozy GameFortnite / UEFN

Context

Today was about expanding the campus environment with new retaining walls, lighting, and marketplace-ready assets. I focused on both in-editor construction and asset creation in my 3D Model Maker app, aiming for a clean, modern, low-poly look that supports both gameplay and future monetization.

Retaining Walls & Lighting

I built retaining walls directly in UEFN, then created rails, bollard lights, and street lights in my 3D Model Maker app. After importing them, I laid out the lighting across the campus, achieving about 50% nighttime illumination. The new assets are clean, modern, and ready for use both in-game and on external marketplaces.

Marketplace Asset Preparation

The process of creating and importing assets for both UEFN and external sale required careful attention to poly count, material usage, and modularity. This dual-purpose approach increases the value of each asset and supports a more sustainable production pipeline.

Summary

What I accomplished:

  • Built retaining walls and campus lighting in UEFN
  • Created marketplace-ready assets in 3D Model Maker
  • Achieved 50% nighttime illumination on campus

What I learned:

  • Modular, low-poly assets are versatile and marketable
  • Lighting design impacts both gameplay and aesthetics
  • Dual-purpose asset creation increases production value
